Gran Fondo de Ometepe 2026 takes riders on a full circumnavigation of the entire island, with the twin volcanoes Concepción and Maderas as the constant backdrop.
The route blends gravel, dirt trails, and scenic countryside roads, ideal for both MTB and gravel bikes.
Starting from a central point, cyclists ride through volcanic landscapes, lush greenery, and a beautiful beachfront section along Lake Nicaragua, enjoying panoramic views throughout the full loop of Ometepe.
Strategically placed aid stations keep riders fueled and hydrated. With a full sunrise-to-sunset window, participants can tackle the challenge at their own pace.
The adventure ends with a festive finish-line celebration filled with music and good vibes.

Tell Me about the courseS
The courses are mapped using GPS technology and is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate.
Course is marked with reflectors, flagging, arrows and volunteers at crucial intersections
The organizers reserves the right to change the course or cutoffs (for safety reasons) at any time and without prior notice.
What about Aid Stations?
Aid Stations (with no cups) are provided for the runners at set distances.
We will have emergency staff ready to intervene and a car sweeping the course
Most Aid Stations have water, electrolyte beverages, bananas, oranges, baked potatoes w/salt, granola bars, tomatoes…

With both volcanoes constantly in view, this route delivers a true adventure — challenging, scenic, and unforgettable — as you circumnavigate the entire island in one epic ride.

The 42km Course circles the base of Volcán Maderas, mixing gravel, dirt, and lush countryside terrain for a compact but stunning adventure. Starting and finishing on the beach, riders enjoy lakeside views, jungle sections, and the peaceful rural paths of the island’s southern half — a beautiful loop that captures the essence of Ometepe in just 42km.

can I volunteer for the races?
Volunteers help with course marking, packet pickup, aid stations, food prep, vehicle and foot course control, and remote support. Work is physical and outdoors.

REQUIREMENTS
Be available for the dates and times you register for. If you cannot attend the volunteer meeting, notify the coordinator. Bring a backpack, change of clothes, headlamp with extra batteries, sunscreen, bug spray, sturdy shoes, at least 3 liters of water, and your own food/snacks.
